The Tuscaloosa County Commission has approved allocating $8.75 million in federal stimulus money to the University of Alabama for a power-generating facility.
The money is part of Tuscaloosa County's total allocation of about $21.9 million in federal stimulus dollars.
The commission on Wednesday unanimously approved the application, which is to help fund a $10.1 million construction project to build a specialized power-generating facility for the eastern portion of UA's campus.
Cathy Andreen, spokeswoman for the University of Alabama, said the university would make up the remaining $1.4 million.
The state's Finance Department still must decide whether to approve the project and determine if it meets federal requirements.
